-
500g plain flour
-
250g butter or margarine
-
140g icing sugar
-
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
-
1 tablespoon milk
-
To Decorate: 50g icing sugar, lemon juice, sprinkles (optional)

Ingredients (makes: 30 large biscuits or 60 small)
Method
Preheat the oven to 160 C / Gas 2 1/2.
Place the flour, butter and sugar in a bowl. Rub together with your fingers until fine breadcrumbs form.
Add the vanilla extract and a little milk until the mixture sticks together to form a dough.
Cover with cling film and leave in the fridge for 30 minutes or so (it can be used straight away if you can’t wait!)
Place on a floured surface and roll out to about 5mm thick (1/4 inch).
Cut out your shapes with a heart shaped cutter and place on a baking tray with some baking parchment or non-stick cooking sheets.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 12 to 15 minutes. Place on a wire rack to cool and harden.
Mix the icing sugar with some lemon juice to create a slightly runny paste
Add a few drops of red food colouring for a blushing pink effect – decorate each biscuit all over with icing, or draw lines or heart shapes – add a few sprinkles or edible silver balls – whatever your hearts desire!
